A Delicious Sicilian Affair: the Wedding of Hospitality Duo Chef Roberto Marotta and Jacqueline Nicosia

On July 3rd, 2023, Toronto hospitality duo Chef Roberto Marotta and Jacqueline Nicosia tied the knot in Sicily, where they first met and began their love story.


Roberto started his culinary career in Sicily nearly twenty years ago and gained widespread recognition as a celebrated chef in the region. After meeting Jacqueline, who is Italian, but Toronto born and raised, while she was visiting family, he knew Toronto was his next stop and it’s where they started their life and business partnership.

They saw an opportunity to launch a restaurant group that would bring the best of the region to a new city. Now the owners of critically acclaimed Sicilian inspired restaurants, Ardo and DOVA (with a third restaurant Bar Ardo coming to Toronto this fall) Jacqueline and Roberto are match made in delicious heaven.

What made this wedding so special was that the couple actually met in front of the church where Nicosia’s grandparents first met at the very same location more than fifty years ago.

Naturally, the menu by such Sicilian enthusiasts was focused on highlighting the best of Sicily and included cuttlefish ink mini burgers, panelle, potato croquettes, arancini, aubergine balls, tempura cod Antipasti and Amberjack tartare. Guests also dined on tuna sashimi, raw Mazara’s shrimp, Aeolian style squid, swordfish and sicilian caponata, rabbit’s salad, red and yellow datterino tomatoes and Salina’s capers.

To top it all, there was also tempura artichokes with celeriac and mint mousse, veal shoulder, as well as lemon potato mousse and its sauce. To wrap things up they served lemon sorbet along with a dessert and fruit buffet.

Overall it was a delicious and beautiful evening full of so much love, lots of happy smiles, and many deliciously full flavours.
