Dagmar and Myles

Dagmar and Myles

-

From 300 guests down to 10, Dagmar and Myles mastered the art of the “Minimony”.

“We called this year our Minimony as we had to scale back our original 300+ guest list down to 10 and were just able to do a ceremony with no reception.” said the beautiful bride Dagmar.  With a scaled back ceremony honouring their originally scheduled wedding date, her and her musical husband Myles were able to pull off the perfect low key, high vibe minimalist affair.

“We decided that no matter what we were restricted to due to Covid we were going to get married and honour our original date of May 23rd, 2021 set back in early 2020 (pre-Covid).” she shared. “It also happened to be Myles' parents 32nd wedding anniversary, so a big honour to carry on in their footsteps.”

No one could have predicted that the lockdowns would last as long as they did, least of all Dagmar and Myles who were incredibly hopeful about their originally scheduled 2021 wedding date.

“Obviously when Covid first hit we were super optimistic and thankful that we had booked a 2021 date thinking things would be back to normal by then, but little did we know things would get worse.” Forever the optimists, they remained hopeful throughout the year, waiting in earnest for the news that they’d be able to go forward with their originally scheduled day.

“In early March, we were still hopeful we'd be able to have 50 or 100 people, but at the end of March I got a phone call from Myles' mom Pauline as she was driving to the cottage and heard on the radio a 3rd wave was coming.” Their hearts sank, but the brave and pragmatic couple knew what they needed to do.

“For whatever reason in this moment, we decided we needed to put our big celebration on hold.” they candidly shared. “At first, we thought we'd maybe do it in the fall, but the more we thought about it, it just made sense to push it out to next year in hopes of things being more normal.” With a new formal date set for May 2022 at The Symes, the couple could not be more thrilled to have the upcoming opportunity to re-do their original larger day in the same month that they’ll celebrate their one year anniversary of the smaller one.

It might be all beautifully sorted now, but things weren’t always as simple as they seem. “When we made the call to use The Symes next year, things were still a bit up in the air on where we’d get married. At one point we were going to get married at our family Shul, but as we neared closer Myles’ parents’ backyard just seemed like the perfect place to do it given the small guest count.”

There was also the matter of the dress.

With two different wedding dates set, Dagmar was faced with the tough decision of deciding what to wear. “When we made this pivot, I decided that I wanted to save my dress to wear next year and since we had this unique scenario do something different that I would have not done had things been normal.”

She turned to her best friend and Maid of Honour, Trilby, who, with all the free time during lockdowns, had recently honed her creative side and begun making clothes.

“She kind of made a joke to me at one point that she’d make me a suit for one of the bridal events and we kind of took this idea and went for it for the actual wedding day. She worked on it for over two months, it was a true labour of love.” With a keen eye for design, a tireless work ethic, and a solid heart of gold, Trilby was able to pull off the absolutely perfect bridal suit.

“I got ready at Myles' parents house and him at our house downtown.” the bride shared. The photographer found this  great nook at her future in-law’s unique home and created an amazing spot to do her prep photos with a stunning white piano setting.

With a beautiful reveal at the deserted Aga Khan Museum, the couple was able to score some absolutely stunning shots that played up on the minimalistic and simplistic striking beauty of their day.  “There was no one on the grounds but a small group of our family and a few friends watching as we saw each other for the first time on our wedding day.” After a great time doing the mini-shoot, the couple returned to Myles’ parents’ house for the Bedeken ceremony followed by an intimate backyard ceremony. Surrounded by their nearest and dearest as well as those who couldn’t be there (via livestream), Dagmar and Myles said “I do” on the perfect date, in the perfect way.

When asked about her thoughts on the whole thing now that it’s over Dagmar enthusiastically shared “It was the most perfect day filled with so much love and we’re so happy we chose to honour our date and embrace this intimate affair we otherwise would not have had.”

And when it comes to all they have to look forward to, the couple giddily added, “We also can’t wait to do it all over again next year!”.

With that, Toronto’s most suave couple sets the tone for casual style, flexible grace, and ‘minimony’ creativity.
